Edward Garrett was the pen name of the Scottish poet and novelist Isabella Fyvie Mayo. Isabella was privately educated at a girl's school near Covent Garden. With the help of friends she published poems and stories, using her pseudonym. She spent most of her life in Aberdeen, where she was the first woman elected to a public board. Her works include: The Occupations of a Retired Life (1868), By Still Waters (1874), Doing and Dreaming (1876), The Dead Sin and Other Stories (1878), Rab Bethune's Double; or, Life's Long Battle Won (1894) and Recollections (1910). ...more
