JORGE VALA é licenciado em Psicologia, pelo Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada (1971) e doutorado em Psicologia, pela Universidade de Louvain (1984), com uma tese intitulada La Production Sociale de la Violence. Foi Professor Catedrático do ISCTE de 1996 a 2006 e é investigador no Instituto de Ciências Sociais desde 2006, do qual foi director, entre 2009 e 2014.
Tem trabalhado em Psicologia Social dos processos socio-cognitivos, nomeadamente no campo das representações sociais e das identidades sociais.
Os projectos que tem em curso articulam estes processos com vista ao estudo do racismo, da imigração, da justiça social e da validação do conhecimento quotidiano.
