The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender

A brilliant book, capturing a mood and sense of place as it unfolds in unexpected directions. This story is more about coming to understand the characters in it than any kind of convoluted plot, and it just has a feeling to it that grows and grows as ...more

I had high hopes for this, but it was just tedious. The story dragged, and the main character was annoyingly passive. If you were stuck in a time loop and wanted to get out of it, wouldn't you experiment? Try going to different locations?

This was my favorite of the Children of Time series, mainly because of the pair of ravens, and the atmosphere of the planet where the population lived in a weird feudal/tech cross-over environment, struggling to survive.
