Author Marian Schwartz studied Russian and Russian literature at Harvard University, Middlebury Russian School, Leningrad State University, and the University of Texas at Austin. She is the recipient of two translation fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and a past president of the American Literary Translators Association. Schwartz worked as an editor for Praeger Publishers for two years in the mid-1970s and has been working as a freelance translator since 1978. Her first book publication was "Vekhi," the famous collection of philosophical essays on the Russian intelligentsia, published as "Landmarks" in 1977.
