A former coach and high school history teacher, Tony W. Johnson earned his Ph.D. in the history and philosophy of education from George Peabody College for Teachers, now part of Vanderbilt University. Receiving the Algernon Sidney Sullivan Award as Peabody's outstanding graduate, Dr. Johnson earned a "pass with distinction" evaluation of his dissertation, The Old Moral Philosophy Course: Its Continuing Legacy in 1978.
