Kevin Patrick Glavin’s ancestors were born and died primarily in Ireland. His surname has two possible Middle Irish etymologies: the County Mayo family used the older Ó Gláimhín, meaning “satirist,” while the County Cork branch used Mag Fhlaithimhín, meaning “prince.” Glavin himself grew up mostly in the Midwest. After receiving his BA in English and MAT in English Education from the University of Iowa, he sashayed like his forefathers—westward. He has been honored to teach many amazing students over the past 28 years at the elementary, high school, and collegiate levels, in the U.S. and abroad, but mainly in Claremont, California.
