Studoval překladatelství na FF UK, vystudoval politologii na FSV UK. Od roku 1995 působí jako překladatel a redaktor.
Překládá v širokém žánrovém rozpětí od thrillerů, SF, grafických románů až po náročnou beletrii přeložil více bezmála 80 titulů, mimo jiné celé dílo Louise de Bernièrese. Soustavně se věnuje Margaret Atwoodové, Alanu Moorovi, Neilu Gaimanovi a poslední dobou zejména Michelu Faberovi. Získal řadu cen (Jiřího Levého i Tomáše Hrácha), naposledy se stal Nejlepším překladatelem SF a fantasy za rok 2007 za překlad románu Jonathan Strange a pan Norrell od Susanny Clarkové a v témže roce obdržel cenu Muriel za překlad Gaimanova grafického románu Hra o tebe.
