Carlos “Calica” Ferrer Zorrilla was born in Alta Gracia, Córdoba on April 4, 1929. At age 4 he met Ernesto Guevara de la Serna, an asthmatic boy who had come with his family to live in that mountain town seeking relief from his condition. Ernesto and Calica were close friends throughout their childhood and adolescence. In 1953 they set out together on an adventurous trip through Latin America that would ultimately end with Guevara's transformation into Comandante Ernesto Guevara.
Calica Ferrer now lives in Buenos Aires with his family and spends his time studying and publicizing the figure of his friend Ernesto Guevara. In this personal testimonial, he lays bare his experiences at Che’s side for the first time. ...more
