Growing up, Joseph Brink steered clear of scary stories. Now he writes delightfully scary stories that give kids courage to face the frightening things in their own lives, intentionally weaving in threads of light, beauty, and hope. When he’s not writing, brainstorming a new story, or reading 100-year-old horror novels and books about cryptids, Joseph loves spending time with his kid siblings, reading aloud to them, and sharing his favourite books.

Lemony Snicket
“We believe in an aristocracy... Not an aristocracy of power, based on rank or wealth, but an aristocracy of the sensitive, the considerate, and the plucky. Our members are found in all nations and classes, and all through the ages, and there is a secret understanding between us when we meet... We represent the true human tradition, the one permanent victory over cruelty and chaos. We're an invincible army, but not a victorious one. We've had different names throughout history, but all the words that describe us are false and all attempts to organize us fail. Right now we're called V.F.D., but all our schisms and arguments might cause us to disappear. It won't matter. People like us always slip through the net. Our true home is the imagination, and our kingdom is the wide-open world.”
Lemony Snicket, Shouldn't You Be in School?

Lemony Snicket
“All the secrets of the world are contained in books. Read at your own risk.”
Lemony Snicket

N.D. Wilson
“Cowards live for the sake of living, but for heroes, life is a weapon, a thing to be spent, a gift to be given to the weak and the lost and the weary, even to the foolish and the cowardly.”
N.D. Wilson, Empire of Bones

Lemony Snicket
“At times the world may seem an unfriendly and sinister place, but believe that there is much more good in it than bad. All you have to do is look hard enough. and what might seem to be a series of unfortunate events may in fact be the first steps of a journey.”
Lemony Snicket

Jim Elliot
“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.”
Jim Elliot

OOOOH you are reading that series! That is possibly my favourite series EVER!

File Under Suspicious Incidents is best read between books 2 and 3. It doesn't matter too much if you read it at other points in the series though (as long as you don't read it before book one or after book 4).

It's really good, though don't expect it to add much to the ATWQ plot... It's pretty much just a standalone book.
