E. M. DE MELO E CASTRO, nascido a 19 de abril de 1932, na Covilhã, foi um dos iniciadores da poesia concreta em Portugal. A sua prática poética tem sido acompanhada por uma teorização sistemática sobre a linguagem e sobre as tecnologias da comunicação. Sua produção bibliográfica, que se estende por mais de cinquenta livros de poemas, prosa e ensaios, tematizou a tecnopoiesis, a cibercultura e a infopoesia e outras linguagens ainda pouco exploradas até então. Além disso, na sua obra cruzam-se múltiplas práticas, que vão da performance corporal e vocal ao poema tridimensional ou em novas mídias.
