I think I need to go on a Hazelwood hiatus for a little while. This was good, fluffy and Swoony at times. It’s got the usual Hazelwood quips and humour which I enjoyed, it’s also paranormal. It’s basically vampires with a different label - and I kind ...more |

Oh good god. I have a lot of mixed feelings about this book. Here’s the thing, I read it very quickly and there was a big chunk in the middle I found very entertaining and binge-able. But, for me, I found the plot and lack of world-building too diffic ...more |

"I enjoyed the read overall, and found myself invested for most of the book, but toward the end it was a bit hard to maintain interest as the conflicts felt more about vibes than plot relevance. IMO, the Snow White elements were the strongest aspects "

Right. So. I have marked this four stars, but I’ve gotta be honest, I struggled for the first third of the novel but then somewhere around the 150-180 mark, it picked up and I was INVESTED. I think this is partly due to the writing style itself. There’s ...more |

Ahhhh. Why did I let myself read this when the next one isn’t due out until October NEXT YEAR?!? Madness. A rookie mistake, truly. Generally, I always find the middle book in a trilogy to be the weakest. And I do think this did suffer a little bit from ...more |

This was a really interesting account of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s life and her impact in US law and politics. This managed to inspire me and also make me so acutely aware of how unproductive I am in my own life… I will admit, I found the first half of th ...more |

“Jane, be still; don't struggle so like a wild, frantic bird, that is rending its own plumage in its desperation."
"I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being, with an independent will; which I now exert to leave you.”

“So what were you [Sonea] and Dorrien discussing before?' Akkarin asked.
She turned to regard him. 'Discussing?'
'Outside the farmhouse when I was buying the food.'
'Oh. Then. Nothing.'
He smiled and nodded. 'Nothing. Amazing subject, that one. Produces such fascinating reactions in people.”

“You think I'm a fool?" demanded Harry.
"No, I think you're like James," said Lupin, "who would have regarded it as the height of dishonor to mistrust his friends.”

“You can tell whether some misogynistic societal pressure is being exerted on women by calmly enquiring, ‘And are the men doing this, as well?’ If they aren’t, chances are you’re dealing with what we strident feminists refer to as ‘some total fucking bullshit’.”

Thank you for your friend request Rachel! Hope you're doing well and totally agree with your review of Shine stating that Jason Lee is unnecessary. :)

I have a goal. A daunting, daunting goal.Finish re-reading the last three Harry Potter books by the end of the week.
Then read The Book Thief.
THEN re-re Daughter of Smoke & Bone AND Days of & Starlight.
Then, collect my copy of Dreams of Gods and Monsters...sit down, relax, have a cuppa with some malteasers and read.
It really grates me when a book is released with it's movie-counterpart's image on the front. I like book covers to be actual BOOK covers. Not another means of advertising Hollywood.
So I realized that my wonderfully large bookcase only holds a certain genre of books of the fantasy inclination. New goal, read some of the different genre!
On a Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows buzz...apologies if I attack all the HP discussions. I'm on a roll people!
