Ben lives in Melbourne, Australia, with his wife and two children. He currently works at the Melbourne School of Theology as their eLearning Coordinator. He enjoys reading, writing, music and playing computer games in equal measures. He has an interest in the intersection between theology and the arts, and to that end has written a play based on the life of Saul, a musical based on the Biblical book of Esther, and a novel that is actually a thinly-disguised commentary on the book of Revelation (as he says, "If others can do it, so can I!") For those who might be interested, he lists C. S. Lewis, Peter Shaffer and Neal Stephenson as his literary inspirations. ...more

Anyone for a hard-copy?

It looks like I will be doing a small print-run of the The Ephesus Scroll. I'm not sure how many to do. So, please leave a comment if you might be interested in buying a copy...

Another fun addition to this wonderful series. Gentle mysteries; moments of wisdom; and a few light chuckles.

A well-written novel, that's slightly non-linear (lots of flashbacks, basically). The premise is pretty cool (magic works); and the inciting incident is doozy (a PhD student's supervisor dies in a magical accident, necessitating a trip to hell to get ...more

This is a highly entertaining fantasy/heist novel, with a clever non-linear structure, and plenty of plot twists to keep you turning the pages. The characters are perhaps a little one dimensional, but that's neither here nor there when the action is ...more

After watching the TV series, I wanted to see how it differed from the book. (Kylie read the book first, and then watched the show; she didn't always like the decisions they made in adapting it.) I found the book easy to read, with a lot of incidenta ...more

I really wanted to like this novel given it had been recommended by Marina Hyde on the "The Rest Is Entertainment" podcast. People speak of the author in the same breath as Pynchon (I haven't been able to finish one of his books) and Eco (I loved a c ...more

An interesting concept with a narrative that unfolded in a slightly non-linear fashion which helped to hold my attention. But the characters were all quite two-dimensional; and while there were a couple of surprises, the plot was somewhat predictable ...more

Deservedly a classic! There mightn't be much plot; and there are times when it's almost impossible to know who is saying what to whom. But the writing! goodness, but it's a pleasure to read! Elizabeth as a central character is such a joy to follow, w ...more
