Edward Percy Frankland was born in London in 1884. After completing his Ph.D, he lectured in chemistry at the University of Birmington until he resigned because of ill health. He started writing fiction in 1922, making frequent use of the Cumbrian setting where he made his home, and continued to publish until his death in 1958.
