Dame Felicity Ann Dahl is a British film producer and philanthropist best known for her work preserving and promoting the legacy of her late husband, author Roald Dahl. Born Felicity D'Abreu in December 1938 in Llandaff, Wales—the same town where Roald Dahl was born—she came from a distinguished family with connections to British nobility. Her upbringing and later experiences led to a life marked by creativity, compassion, and dedication to storytelling and children’s welfare.
Before meeting Dahl, she married Charles Reginald Hugh Crosland, with whom she had three daughters. Her path would dramatically shift when, while working as a set designer on a commercial in 1972, she met Roald Dahl. In 1991, she founded the Roald Dahl Foundation, which evolved into Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, supporting seriously ill children across the UK. She also played a crucial role in the creation of the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre, a space for nurturing imagination, literacy, and a love for storytelling in children and adults alike.
In film, Felicity was instrumental in bringing some of Roald Dahl’s most beloved stories to the screen. She produced the 1996 film Matilda and served as executive producer on Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005). She was known for having strong opinions on casting and storytelling but always held the vision of honoring Dahl’s voice at the forefront.
Beyond her work in literature and film, Dahl co-authored Memories with Food at Gipsy House, a charming mix of recipes and stories that reflects the warmth and eccentricity of her life with Roald. She remains an influential figure in British cultural life, celebrated for her dedication to children’s welfare and the arts.
