Alan Wakefield is a British military historian and curator specializing in the First World War. Born in Marlborough, Wiltshire in 1968, he studied History at the University of Reading and earned an MA in War Studies from King’s College London, followed by a further MA in Museum Studies from University College London. He has held curatorial roles at the National Maritime Museum and the RAF Museum, and between 2000 and 2016 served as curator and later Head of the Photograph Archive at the Imperial War Museum (IWM). In 2016, he was appointed Head of First World War & Early 20th Century Conflict at the IWM, where he leads a team responsible for collections and historical content covering the period 1900 to 1929.
