John Franklin Genung. An ordained Baptist minister, at Amherst College as instructor of literature (1882–84), professor of rhetoric and English literature (1884–1906), and professor of literature and Biblical interpretation (1906–17). Graduate of Union College 1870, Rochester Theological Seminary 1875, and the University of Leipzig.
