A guitar player and an actor, Alex Malchow is like many 15 year old boys. He loves Xbox, Facebook, country music and sports.

At the time he helped write "Sword of Darrow," Alex was 8 years old and still could not read. He was diagnosed with learning disabilities and enrolled in the Lab School of Washington, a school that specializes in teaching students with learning differences.

At the Lab School, he overcame his reading issues and became an honor-roll student. He was named the Outstanding Actor among seventh- and eighth-grade students and was one of a handful of students selected to participate in interviewing prospective candidates for the position of headmaster at the school.
