The Juniper Tree by Barbara Comyns

Slow going for me, but I'm glad I finished it. Yes, fairy-tale like. Gorgeous writing. The kind of tidy ending I tend not to like--a bit too "happily ever after." I now know more about British antiques than I ever wanted to! The writing is really lov ...more

I'm not a fan of epistolary novels, so I was surprised by how much I liked this book. The writing is gorgeous, and the structure really works to slowly reveal why Sybil is the way she is and also how and why she changes. ...more

It took me a while to get into this novel. There are a ton of characters, and the structure is sometimes confusing (despite all the headings). But it gets better as it goes, and by the end I liked it very much. There is a kind of generosity with flaw ...more

Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke
"WARNING: This is a “brain-on” review with (hidden) spoilers, as I am mentally unable to “turn my brain off” while reading anything.

Yesteryear has one of the most compelling premises I’ve come across: a wildly successful tradwife influencer is forced " Read more of this review »

Wonderful characters and setting, more a good family story than crime fiction (which is not a knock on the novel). The closing pages are a bit saccharin or perhaps just too tidy. But a very enjoyable read.
