Jed Macosko received his Ph.D from the University of California at Berkeley. He was awarded the Admiral Rickover Medal of Honor at the Research Science Institute at Washington D.C. and the Merck Award for highest performance in chemistry as an undergraduate at M.I.T. He has also worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at Berkeley.

Macosko has studied the complex design of molecular machines using scanning force microscopy. He has also developed a science course entitled Life: By Chance or by Design? and has published numerous articles in technical journals such as Biochemistry, RNA Journal and Molecular Biology.
