Teen author Micaela Wendell has been creating stories ever since she was very young, but her love for writing truly blossomed in her middle school years. In 5th Grade, her poem “Humiliation” was published in A Celebration of Young Poets: Appalachia—Spring 2005. During her 6th Grade year, she worked with two other students in writing and illustrating a children’s book. Their book won an honorable mention in Scholastic’s Kids are Authors contest.

Once Micaela entered seventh grade, she participated in WordSmith, a city-wide young writers’ competition in Memphis, TN. She achieved an Honorable Mention in the 40-word dash.
