Ila France Porcher is one of the writers working full time to establish the sentience of animals in the literature. She began observing wildlife behaviour early in life in Canada and initially painted her subjects to finance her studies in ethology.

She began writing books about the true nature and intelligent awareness of wildlife when the community of sharks she had been observing underwater for several years in Tahiti was massacred for shark fin soup. The first was The Shark Sessions, which documented the only long-term ethological study of wild sharks ever carried out.

Since then she has written The True Nature of Sharks, a full-scale presentation of shark behaviour, Merlin: The Mind of a Sea Turtle, which presents the sentient nature

By then the community I had watched for years was being slaughtered for s

Grant Morrison
“Your head's like mine, like all our heads; big enough to contain every god and devil there ever was. Big enough to hold the weight of oceans and the turning stars. Whole universes fit in there! But what do we choose to keep in this miraculous cabinet? Little broken things, sad trinkets that we play with over and over. The world turns our key and we play the same little tune again and again and we think that tune's all we are.”
