Ethel H. Hall was the first African American woman elected to the Alabama Board of Education and was reelected to six consecutive terms, serving as vice president for two terms. A career educator, she holds degrees from Alabama A&M University, the University of Chicago, Atlanta University, and the University of Alabama. She taught in Alabama public schools and at the universities of Montevallo and Alabama, where she was named Associate Professor Emerita by UA Board of Trustees in 1990 for outstanding contributions to teaching, research and service.
