Katharine Light was born in Glasgow and lived there until her family moved to South Manchester when she was ten. While in her teens, she began writing stories for her younger sister. These mostly centred around a naïve heroine and a 1980s pop star (some would say the hero was modelled on John Taylor of Duran Duran).
She did a degree in psychology at University College London, and after a year travelling, worked in corporate film production for several years, before taking a break to raise her children. During this time, she did two year-long writing courses with the Open University, and completed a first draft of Like Me, book one of The Millingham Series.

The urge to connect

Like Me, and the novels that follow, are fiction. But as with so many stories, I have written about some aspects of my own life. I grew up south of Manchester, in a strong friendship group that saw us through our teens.

Our social lives revolved around gatherings at each other’s houses and Sunday night Youth Fellowship, the local youth club.
