I love military sci-fi, and BV Larson is my comfortable go-to guy when I need something in the genre. His world-building is seamless and his characters are memorable. First Strike is a fine addition to his portfolio!

I got this as an audio book. Good take on the I-see-ghosts mystery genre. Subtle. Builds slow and delivers big. Not my usual cup of tea, but it came highly recommended. By my wife!

The storyline is good, but it's obscured by the need for an editor. Wordy and redundant at times, plus the occasional inanity that should have been caught. For example, nobody would carry a "dripping" Molotov cocktail in a paper bag. ...more

The Dogs of War is relevant even today: the struggle for rare earth minerals in Africa, corruption, and international intrigue. Even better, Frederick Forsyth has a style that transcends time.

I read the entire series while commuting to work. Fabulous hard-science fiction. Reminds me of The Expanse. In fact, i think Spinward Fringe predates The Expanse. Either way, it's a great read. ...more

Great non-stop action throughout the series and full of lines like this: He was a big guy, utterly naked, gnawing on the gristle of a bone. Highly recommended!
