It was that first found treasure of an old religious medal that she dusted off and tied to a string and put around her neck that sparked her interest in jewelry, amulets, and talismans. Then she learned about herbs and ancient healing techniques and decided to put them together in to a book due out this spring: Inspiritu; Healing jewelry for the mind body and soul due out from F&W publications in March of 2011. During this time Marie has put together workshops called "Making Your Mark" where she shares some of her techniques in stamping, fabric block printing, clay texturing, hammering, repose, and distressing. She shares these exciting techniques during trunk shows, and workshops where you can buy pieces she has premade and design them into your own personal statement, or as she likes to say you can"Make your Mark." Over the years she has added signature touches to create rustic, organic, well-worn designs with a modern classic twist-the signature of her style. Marie feels each piece of jewelry she designs stands alone, but is even more enriched when worn layered together. She mixes the old treasures she finds along her travels, and the distressed pieces she hand hammers, and marks to create special pieces with handmade imperfection to create each unique piece. There are so few things in life are perfect that it is nice to celebrate and honor the imperfections that make up the life we live. In doing this we actually live instead of trying to control those things that just can't be controlled. It is usually in the mistakes that I find my greatest inspirations, and in the frustration that brings in new ideas. So I guess my jewelry designs are a way of honoring that. Inspiration is life and life is inspiration it is just taking the time to listen, to see, and to be a part of your life. That is why I find it so valuable to celebrate the way we "Make Marks, and imbue a sense of the sacred in the pieces we wear and honor. May the jewelry and healing designs bring you a sense of peace, and a bit of the sacred in you life...Make your mark. My arms open wide to you!
