“Dad got me a ... guinea pig?"
"For breakfast," Zack said. "That's why I named her Toast. You aren't going to eat her, are you?"
"No!"
"Woot!" Zack hugged the cage to his chest, carrying it off in the direction of his bedroom. "I hope you don't want to eat Marmalade or Sugar Puff either!"
"Marma-- oh, never mid.”

“We both looked down at the stake through my heart.
Funny. I would have thought that should hurt more.
From the look on the vampire hunter’s face, he thought it should hurt more too.”

“I was a vampire, and... someone was trying to call me?
When my parents had said that not even death could pry me from my mobile phone, I'd thought they were joking. I wriggled around in the narrow coffin until I could reach the ringing handset.”

“If you want to write, if you want to create, you must be the most sublime fool that God ever turned out and sent rambling. You must write every single day of your life. You must read dreadful dumb books and glorious books, and let them wrestle in beautiful fights inside your head, vulgar one moment, brilliant the next. You must lurk in libraries and climb the stacks like ladders to sniff books like perfumes and wear books like hats upon your crazy heads. I wish you a wrestling match with your Creative Muse that will last a lifetime. I wish craziness and foolishness and madness upon you. May you live with hysteria, and out of it make fine stories — science fiction or otherwise. Which finally means, may you be in love every day for the next 20,000 days. And out of that love, remake a world.”

“Comedy is hard. In many ways, it's like singing: If you have perfect pitch, it's much easier. But you can still go a long way toward mastering the rudiments if you must trust your voice. Most of the mistakes I've seen people make in trying to write funny is that they don't trust their own senses of humor. They don't think they're funny, and they set out to write funny the way they've read other people being funny with a grim determination that pretty much precludes any chance that anybody is going to have fun. Relax, listen to your characters, exploit their fears and flaws, and mine their situations for places in which they can use their own brands of humor.”

A gentle but heartfelt plea... if you've read and enjoyed Fang Girl, I would be ETERNALLY grateful if you would rate it on Amazon... I don't have many reviews there yet!
Kelly wrote: "Will there be a sequel to Fang Girl ?? T^T I want to know what happens to Jane & Van. I finished your book last night~ and loved it!"Eeee, thank you so much! That put a huge smile on my face!
I'm actually writing the sequel to Fang Girl at the moment (in which Jane encounters the inevitable hot werewolf, who is not quite what she's expecting...). Unfortunately I don't have a publication date for it yet, as HarperTeen naturally want to see how well the first book does before committing to buying the sequel. So I would be eternally grateful if you spread the word about Fang Girl, because I REALLY want you to be able to read the next one!
But in good news, I DO have another book coming out from HarperTeen next year - it's not directly related to Fang Girl (it's not about vampires), but it is another YA comedy with the same sort of humor. It's called NO ANGEL, so you may be able to guess what paranormal genre I'm parodying this time... *grin*
