To start, I really enjoyed this book. I had been following Nicole's journey of writing this book and was very intr I was lucky enough to be selected as an ARC reader for this book.

To start, I really enjoyed this book. I had been following Nicole's journey of writing this book and was very intrigued from the start. I expected to be dropped right into the DA, into the thick of it so to speak but the way Nicole chose to tell this story was actually perfect. We learn about Sierra and Bodhi's relationship as they are moving interstate, and we get to experience the good of their relationship in glimpses aswel. Obviously, we know it is toxic but as the reader you can understand the appeal Sierra has on why she is with Bodhi in a way.

What I also didn't expect was how much this story would speak to me as a woman and a friend of someone who has gone through DA. At the heart of this book is the romance that eventually blooms with Cole but I didn't expect to relate to Cole's POV as much as I did. The helplessness he felt. The anger he had to smother. It gave me the layers behind Nicole's "why" and made me think of all the ways I could have done better when I was faced with this on the other side. I actually reached out to my friend and apologized on how I wish I knew then what I understand better now... simply after reading this book. It was quite healing even though she of course always knew I meant well.

That aside, the romance that brews with Cole is absolutely delicious. He is HOT, HOT, HOT! Not only in the physical sense but he is such a wonderful representation of what we are growing to love more and more which is healthy masculinity. He doesn't showboat his strength. He makes Sierra feel safe, seen and heard. From the big things down to the way she likes her coffee and her favourite flowers. He lets her shine and grow, enjoying her for how she is not what she was pretending to be. SEEING her for every bit of beauty she has from the outside and within. He has healthy communication and is mature and completely well rounded.

To wrap this up, this is a beautiful story! Set in Australia which I really enjoyed too. A book that you definitely need to gather with your girlfriends to read or bring to your book clubs. It's a great story and it can open conversation around DA without it being too dark or heavy. AND you can enjoy all the tropes that we love and adore in romance too.
