Roger Morris is a maritime historian and painter. He is also a part time lecturer in Maritime History at Massey University, Auckland.
Morris attended the Thames Nautical Training College, then became an apprentice deck officer for a shipping company, eventually becoming First Mate in 1957. He married and emigrated with his family to New Zealand. He obtained became an art teacher and painter.
Morris's first book of paintings, "Sail Change," was published in 1981.
He joined the crew of a The Bounty Replica as First Mate and stayed at sea until 1984.
