Jamila E. Gomez was born on January 15th, 1982 in Chicago, Ill. She is the youngest of three daughters. She faced challenges from the day she was born due to a birth defect called Spina bifida. She lived in Chicago for three years before she and her family moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where she attended kindergarten in a wheelchair. However, she was able to maintain her own mobility soon.

After kindergarten, Jamila and her family packed up and moved to Lithonia, Georgia. There she attended Redan Elementary, Salem Middle, and Redan High School, graduating in 2000. “What the hell is going on here?” Yvonnia asked. “You two know each other?”
