A linguist by training, Mari Fujimoto serves as director of Japanese Studies at the City University of New York. Her research involves first language acquisition, syntactic and pragmatic analysis of Japanese particles (especially viewing /-ga/ and /-wa/ as a pragmatic unit), and Japanese language pedagogy.
