Nascida em 20 de Janeiro de 1952, em Vale da Azinheira, Minas de São Domingos, no Alentejo, e filha de um anarco-sindicalista, Aurora Rodrigues matriculou-se na Faculdade de Direito de Lisboa, em 1969/70, com 17 anos. Abordada pelo PCP, trabalha com o MRPP, fundado em 1970, pois considera este movimento mais abertamente contra a guerra colonial. Só aderirá formalmente depois de ver de perto o também estudante Ribeiro dos Santosser assassinado pela PIDE.
Aurora foi presa a 3 de Maio de 1973, nas traseiras da Faculdade de Letras, após um meeting de estudantes, e levada para Caxias, onde é "do princípio ao fim mantida em regime de rigoroso isolamento".
