قاض وكاتب ومفكر وزعيم هندي مسلم. ولد في «أوهان» من إقليم «أود» في الهند لأب مسلم اسمه سعادة علي. وهو سليل أسرة عربية شيعية تنتمي إلى آل البيت كانت تستوطن خراسان، وكان عميدها محمود صادق خان واحداً من كبراء البلاط الفارسي أيام الشاه عباس الصفوي. وحين خلف نادر شاه الصفويين، انتظم أحد أبناء محمود صادق في جيش نادر شاه الذي غزا الهند أواسط القرن الثامن عشر.
