Isla Neal grew up in a small mountain town in Southern California, where she enjoyed such activities as cross-stitching, falling over while skiing, competing in old-timey costume contests, and generally being a grade-A nerd. Once she might have seen rapper Ice-T in a limo. She has worked as a camp counselor, a burrito roller, a research lab technician, a nanny, and a children’s book editor, among other things. Isla’s current hobbies include watching (but not participating in) competitive eating contests, participating in (but not watching) competitive crossword tournaments, baking pies, bicycle riding, and generally being a grade-A nerd.
