Helen Barbara Pattskyn lives with her husband and children (both human and four footed) in a quiet suburb of Detroit, MI. She is working on becoming a full-time writer as well as doing volunteer work and still trying to find time to putter in her garden, watch the stars, and paint.

Helen describes herself as a storyteller, a science fiction geek, and a bookworm; as introverted, but not shy. Her favorite jobs (besides being a writer) have been hawking left-handed mugs at the Georgia and Michigan Renaissance Festivals and painting polyurethane corpses for Gag Studio. She’s also waited tables, cut fabric, and worked as a library assistant. If anyone ever asks, she describes her life as “quiet”—but even she’ll admit that when you condense it i

Reboot

I am (slowly) rebooting my life. Well. My artistic life. My personal life went and rebooted itself last fall when my daughter was diagnosed with mental illness (she's doing much better now; once she got on the meds, she realized she needed them, which is a HUGE step!) -- and right after THAT settled down, my mother in law fell ill (cancer; still dealing with all of it, but fingers and toes crossed Read more of this blog post »

“Powerful feeling, having a man’s nuts in your mouth, isn’t it, boy?” Henry said. “Sometimes when a guy’s got me like you do now, I have to ask myself which one of us is really in charge. Is it me, ’cause you’re kneeling there with your hands behind your back, or is it you, ’cause if you wanted to, you could seriously hurt me?”

“Resent you? I love you.”

“Why are you scared?” “Because I feel like a total freak for wanting this stuff. Only when I’m with you… when I’m with you it’s not scary and I don’t feel like a freak. With you it all feels right.” “Damn.”

“It must be around forty, when you're "over the hill." I don't even know what that means and why it's a bad thing. When I go hiking and I get over the hill, that means I'm past the hard part and there's a snack in my future. That's a good thing as far as I'm concerned.”

message 1: by Gusto

Gusto Dave Hi Helen! Thanks for approving us as friends.

I’m Gusto Dave Jackson, Publicity Chair for Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers and I wouldn’t be worth my salt if I didn’t tout our blog and organization. Chiseled in Rock http://chiseledinrock.blogspot.com features side-splitting satire and some flash fiction for intellectual readers.

This week on the Rock: writer of risqué romances E.C. STACY regales us with a cartoon and a creepy analogy between critique groups and secret societies, and we poke fun at luminary author BERNARD CORWELL. Check out our revealing interview with literary agent REBECCA STRAUSS on August 18th.

For writers, we offer tips and agent/editor interviews. RMFW has several bestselling authors such as NYT Bestseller Jeanne Stein, RITA Award finalist Joanne Kennedy, and Karen Duvall. You have an open invitation to the “The Rock” for contests, entertainment, and an insight to the world of writing! Let’s follow each others’ blogs!
