I rose from a deckhand to captain one of the most productive crabbers in the Bering Sea and North Pacific. No other boats knew where I was working. While offloading in Dutch Harbor, none of the crew went to the bar to swap stories with other men. Everyone was restricted to the boat until the end of the season. While in town my books with pot locations and counts were removed from the wheelhouse and kept in my cabin. This is an industry of secrets.
