Jeanette the Semi-Reliable Narrator
Jeanette was initially conceived as an unreliable narrator, not so much self-serving as self-censoring, blinkered by her own biases. The non-Jeanette segments of Butterfly on a Wheel-- which once spanned POVs including Peter, Jamie, Allie, and Molly as well as Nicky-- told the whole of the story, casting Jeanette's self-designated role as David's witness in a new light.
