Jim Stovall is the former Edward J. Meeman Distinguished Professor of Journalism at the University of Tennessee and professor emeritus at both the University of Alabama and the University of Tennessee. He is the author of Writing for the Mass Media, used at more than 500 colleges and universities, and served on active duty in the United States Navy from 1970-1974. The Death of the Admiral is his debut work of historical fiction.
