I was born to an Air Force family. I lived in Great Falls ten months then commenced to move about: averaged less than a year anyplace until my late teens. I have lived in England, Iran, Germany, and nine of the United States. I flew military helicopters the Army then the Coast Guard for a first career. Now I write and edit, and am learning to self promote. :-)

During retirement leave, November 15, 2003, I broke my back ditching a homebuilt experimental airplane 100 NM out to sea from Maui, Hawaii. I finally retired from the USCG in 2004, after spinal surgery and rehabilitation. I guess there is an upside to that. I met Teri before the military, before the flying, and before I could really grow a beard. We met in high school, married in 1982, and will shortly celebrate our 30th anniversary with our two kids, aged 8 and 13. I guess we sort of lost track of time.

We live in a beat-up old log home on a ridge line in Peter’s Creek, Alaska with two dogs, two cats, and the occasional passing moose or bear.

I started to self-publish Zook Country after years of unsuccessful efforts to find a publisher. Naturally this led almost directly to a publishing contract for Zook Country. Zook Country was previously published in German as ZOOKLAND. (Yeah, I was translated into German and published before I could find a publisher in my own language.)
