I’m fascinated by human nature, by what hides beneath our surface. There’s nothing more exciting to me than catching glimpses of it, and I can’t think of a better place for that than in the imaginary realm of a sci-fi book where possibility is pushed to the edge. I recently took the plunge and self-published my first.

“So many concepts would lose their meaning in an endless existence—novelty, sensitivity, uniqueness, perhaps even love. And an unease pervades—a tension that something lasts forever, akin to the tension of something being gone forever.”

“He flashes his perfect smile and spreads his fingers with a flourish. He exudes the certainty that whatever his reaction, it’s always the right choice. It’s what makes him both captivating and unlikable.”

“I’m waiting in the dark, where apparitions jostle to grab me. Perceivable threats are only half the problem. There are things just as bad behind closed eyelids.”

“Auxland isn’t subject to ordinary regulations. Isolated from the general populace, it operates on its own terms, reviving therapies our great-grandparents already protested against. All those discharged have one thing in common: a lost gaze and an unshakable fear of committing even the smallest infraction.”

“It’s not that I’m brave, yet like anyone who lives predominantly inside their mind, I tend to fill in the gaps with a fine selection of worst-case scenarios.”

“Generally, it would be cruel to ask someone to relive their trauma, so I wouldn't twist the knife. But in Remi’s case, the twisting doesn’t affect any vital organs. By his very nature, he always appears to be out of danger.”
