A broken mirror means bad luck and there I was
carrying one around on my back all day like a beast
of burden so that my steps chimed like pocket change
but I was also lucky not to slice the skin of my fingers
each time I reached in to get a pencil or a brush
also lucky enough to move through the world with a name
like Alma which means soul meaning spirit which I have
a lot of or so I am told which I prefer to believe
because it's a free country
