Family vacation prep can be stressful. There’s finding a pet and/or house sitter, packing, getting to your departure place on time, and remembering your identification and tickets. Mama Sheep has the fix to ensure everything goes off smoothly and nothing is forgotten; she’s created “The Big Cruise Day Checklist.” Mama Sheep methodically goes through the list with her family, making sure nothing is overlooked. Pack something special. Check, even though one child’s choice was a risky item for a ship! Put the suitcases in the taxi. Check! Deliver the pet and plants to the sitters. Check and check! Make sure you have the tickets! Check! Mama Sheep checks the list more than once, and everything seems to be in order. Now, it’s smooth sailing from here, right? Wrong!

No matter how well families prepare for a vacation, there’s always that one thing they forget. Maybe even a multiple of things! Ask your kid(s) to guess what they think the sheep family forgot before the story’s big unveiling. Teachers, also ask your class to share if they or their family ever forgot something for a trip. Mama Sheep took the missing vacation item(s) rather well, but it prompted her to add a new item to her vacation checklist: a very important item no one wants to overlook! (No spoilers!)

Mama Sheep and the Big Cruise Day Checklist was a fun read. Kids will enjoy watching the Sheep family prepare for a cruise. Parents and Educators will love that the story offers opportunities for group discussions and is also pleasing to the eye. The various animals in human clothing were cute, and so were the sheep’s heart-shaped noses. Kids as young as 2 will love the illustrations, but 3- to 7-year-olds will be more inclined to guess what was left behind and share their own vacation mishap memories. I encourage you to read Mama Sheep and the Big Cruise Day Checklist and Mama Sheep and the Mysterious Cup!

One Last Snoot Boop is a moving story that will touch the hearts of all animal lovers, especially those who’ve loved and lost a pet.

We form strong bonds with our pets. They become our confidant, our honorary sibling, our therapy buddy, and our friend. We see each other through the good times and bad. We often grow up together, not quite remembering a time they were not a part of our lives. And when the time comes to say goodbye to our beloved friend, our hearts shatter. One Last Snoot Boop tells the story of an adorable canine who found his forever home at three months old. It was love at first sight for JJ and Matt. They didn’t mind Cuthbert’s queasy stomach on car rides, his chew toy preferences, or whining at night. They were patient with him, and the snapshots show a family who adored being together.

Time moves swiftly. One minute, you are trying to corral an energetic puppy, and the next, you are hugging them as they grow weaker in your arms. JJ and Matt face this emotional journey in One Last Snoot Boop. The story, the illustrations, it all captures the heartbreaking reality. But what truly touches the heart is their final moments together. No spoilers, but you might want tissues nearby.

The death of a beloved pet is never easy to deal with, not for adults and especially not for kids. Kids might question whether there is a doggie heaven. Though One Last Snoot Boop does not come out and say there is one, it does show “Rum the Mighty Tum” in his afterlife. The dog acted as he had for many years and fondly remembered his owners’ loving hands. They, in turn, felt their pup’s love long after he’s gone.

One Last Snoot Boop is an emotional story; a great choice if your family has recently lost a pet, especially a dog. I recommend sharing the book with children aged 3-8 years. I also advise having tissues nearby.

For starters, yes, it takes many years of schooling and then hands-on experience. Yes, doctors work many hours under extreme pressure. They have cases that test their capabilities, moments of happiness, and moments that emotionally impact them. Doctors must love solving puzzles, be attentive, be team players, be sympathetic, retain vast knowledge of medical information, and more. But if you have a passion for helping others, can handle stress and emotional moments, and are willing to keep learning, you just might have found your future career.

So You Want To Be A Doctor, like the other career books, walks readers through a day in the life of a doctor. We see how lunches go uneaten, how the day doesn't stop when the doctor "clocks out" from a shift, and how a doctor's demeanor changes from patient to patient. Doctors will cherish the good days, understanding that there will be hard days, filled with losses and unfortunate news. They tend not only to their patients, but also to their families. But doctors do not bear this weight alone. So You Want To Be A Doctor shares other team members who work alongside the doctor to give the best care to every patient under their care: the nurses, specialists, technicians, lab workers, pharmacists, and social workers.

So You Want To Be A Doctor also points out that we are finally taking care of the people who take care of others. Maybe this was due to the coverage of healthcare workers during the COVID crisis, but I'm grateful for whatever prompted it and appreciate the writer included it in the book. I also loved the artwork, which spoke volumes to what doctors’ face: the good and the bad. As with the other books in the professional/career series, I loved the fun facts and the pages spotlighting a few famous doctors in history. Do you know what prompted the creation of the first stethoscope, or what it was used to hear in a patient's heart? Or how many medical schools rejected Elizabeth Blackwell's application to medical school? Can you name the approximate number of cells in a human body? These answers, plus a whole lot more, await your discovery. I recommend this book for teens who are considering becoming doctors. SO YOU WANT TO BE A VETERINARIAN gives a wonderful overview of a day in a small vet office, showing that the day can be filled with many surprising moments, laughs, and tears. But small animal vets, who treat animals such as cats and dogs, are not the only vets out there. The writer covers large animals (e.g., farm animals), exotic animals (e.g., ferrets and even tarantulas), zoo animals, and wildlife.
