Ralph Shamas



Ralph Shamas was born and raised in New Mexico. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of New Mexico and earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Law. He first represented a citizen accused in 1973, and handled hundreds of cases over 32 years of practicing law.

He was distinguished by the highest possible peer rating which can be bestowed on a lawyer, and he was selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America. Judge Shamas was appointed to the District Court by New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson in 2005, and he has since presided over scores of criminal trials.
