In the early 1990s Ufrieda started her career as a student rookie reporter on a community newspaper before joining The Star full-time. At the national daily she worked as a general news reporter and later as senior features writer.
After clocking up time abroad on a Commonwealth working holiday visa she returned to South Africa and has been freelancing since on various mainstream newspapers. As a features writer and photojournalist she contributes to a number of magazines in mainstream media as well as for specialist journals, trade and corporate publications and websites.
