It's a good and important book to read, and I recommend it, but boy was it miserable. I mean the subject matter is fucking miserable. It depicts a very, *very* fucked world.

Ted is on page 214 of 368 of Parable of the Sower: I feel really bad that I don't feel like reading this. I mean it's brutally miserable. It's also really important. But I find myself thinking—I actually suspect humans are *not actually this shitty to each other*, even in situations of extreme desperation. But I'm sure that's just pure naïveté? :/
