As a Scorpio and a confirmed alchemist, he prefers to test out his delirious theories by walking them first before talking to others about them. And in the end, Russil is ever the optimist reaching for the transcendent, a seeker of silver linings and golden wisdom.

Once a shy boy, he was raised by British parents in the woods and subdivisions of upstate New York. He nailed his International Baccalaureate in a school west of Paris. He was a freshman at Sussex University in England before returning stateside. At Brown University he squeaked through with a Theater Arts BA (avoiding the BS wherever possible). Poetry began gushing forth during his temp years, mostly in reaction to the sordid underbelly of corporate life in Manhattan, Philly and San Fran.

Russil’s own quirky spiritual investigations moved to the front burner during his California years. A detour to the Yucatan pyramids in 1994 precipitated major lifestyle changes, after which he began to take his bohemian writing mission a lot more seriously… What was a non-materialist, low consumption, highly whimsical lifestyle all about? Russil roamed a myriad sub-cultures of North America, both urban and rural, to find out. He gathered the stories of idealists of all persuasions, taking copious and sometimes incomprehensible notes en route. Burning Man Festival in particular impressed on him its core idea of radical free expression.

Those assembled notes were distilled and became the skeletons of the e-books he has been publishing since 2008 at his exclusive online ebookstore, QuirkEbooks. ...more
