Millicent is a California native raised in the central valley. At the age of fourteen, the world of writing open for her. Her love for dragons and Chinese culture drew her to write her first draft of the Secrets of the Dragon series. For ten years, she continued developing her talent, taking a break to serve a year and a half mission yet completing her first novel, The Glass Serpent a year later after she returned home. Right before her twenty-sixth birthday, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. However, during her treatment she kept a journal while still writing two books.

For example, all of the mundane tasks. On top of all of my tasks is planning my wedding reception with Mom, so that should be fun. Monday is another doctor's visit. Friday is another treatment. “Get up," I tell myself, "You go and make your dreams a reality. There's no use staying home and whine every time life beats you down. There's a meadow in the deep forest; you just have to keep pushing through.”
Millicent Ashby

“I keep going;I keep writing because I know something good will happen, and I want to see it when it happens.”
Millicent Ashby

“If there's one thing I've learned, it is to never give up--no matter what your circumstances are. Giving up doesn't solve anything.”
Millicent Ashby

“Love all, trust a few,
Do wrong to none: be able for thine enemy
Rather in power than use; and keep thy friend
Under thy own life's key: be check'd for silence,
But never tax'd for speech.”
William Shakespeare, All's Well That Ends Well

“There are only two forces at work in this world- black and white. Only people are grey.”
Chris Heimerdinger, Gadiantons and the Silver Sword

“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

“We read to know we're not alone.”
William Nicholson, Shadowlands: A Play

“...only in the surrender of the light could the darkness prevail.”
David Eddings, King of the Murgos
