Althea Farren grew up on a remote ranch in Rhodesia (later to become Zimbabwe). She studied English Literature at university in South Africa and taught for several years. In 1976 she became a founder member of a book club that sustained their group during the turbulent years of the Rhodesian bush war and later through the traumatic post 2000 farm invasions. In 2001, she co-authored “Voices of Zimbabwe” with her husband, Larry and her sister, Glyn Hunter. Between 1994 and early 2007, Althea and Larry ran their own printing and promotional business in Bulawayo, until the virtual collapse of the agro-based economy forced them to leave the country. They now live in County Wexford, Ireland. They have two sons, Sean and Brian.

About “It’s a Little Inconvenient”

When Robert Mugabe took over Rhodesia in 1980, we feared the worst. After all, we – as white Rhodesians had been fighting a guerrilla war against Mugabe’s ZANU forces and the ZAPU forces of Joshua Nkomo for years. At first, we were pleasantly surprised. Mugabe appeared to be responsible and statesmanlike. He urged all of us – whites and blacks - to work together for a united Zimbabwe.
