Quotes by Iris Jones Simantel (?)

“My prayers were always the same. 'Please God keep everyone safe from the bombs' followed by a litany of blessings...The length of my blessing list depended on how tired I happened to be, but I always ended it with , 'God bless everyone, except the Germans.'

Many years later I confessed my wartime prayer ending to a German friend. He laughed. 'Don't feel bad, Iris. We said the same thing about the English!'

The children of war learn to hate at an early age.”
