Chet Skibinski was born in Massachusetts in 1942, moved to California at age 12, received B.A. and M.A. degrees in English from UCLA, and served in the Peace Corps (Thailand) from 1965 to 1967. He then taught high school English in Fremont, California, at Taipei American School in Taiwan, and at Sunset High School in Beaverton, Oregon. Since 1974, he and his wife Linda have lived in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

He retired after 33 years of high school teaching in 2000, and was enjoying a very pleasant retirement until he was totally surprised by a grim cancer diagnosis in 2008. After over a year of chemotherapy, and after a bone marrow transplant, the cancer seems to have gone into remission…and retirement has become pleasant again.
