മലയാളത്തിലെ പ്രശസ്ത നോവലിസ്റ്റും പത്രപ്രവര്‍ത്തകനുമായിരുന്നു എം.കെ. മേനോ‌ന്‍ എന്ന എം. കുട്ടികൃഷ്ണമേനോ‌ന്‍ (ജൂണ്‍ 23, 1928 - മേയ് 15, 1993). വിലാസിനി എന്ന തൂലികാനാമത്തില്‍ അറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന കുട്ടികൃഷ്ണ മേനോ‌ന്‍ വടക്കാഞ്ചേരിക്ക് അടുത്തുള്ള കരുമത്രയിലാണ് ജനിച്ചത്. 1947-ല്‍ മദിരാശി സര്‍വ്വകലാശാലയില്‍ നിന്നും ബിരുദം നേടിയ അദ്ദേഹം രണ്ടുവര്‍ഷം കേരളത്തില്‍ അദ്ധ്യാപകനായും നാലുവര്‍ഷം ബോംബെയില്‍ ഗുമസ്തനായും ജോലിനോക്കിയശേഷം 1953-ല്‍ സിംഗപ്പൂരിലേക്ക് പോയി. തുടര്‍ന്നുള്ള 25 വര്‍ഷക്കാലം ഏ. എഫ്. പി എന്ന അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര വാര്‍ത്താ ഏജ‌ന്‍സിയുടെ കീഴില്‍ ജോലി നോക്കിയ അദ്ദേഹം അതിന്റെ തെക്കുകിഴക്കനേഷ്യ‌ന്‍ കേന്ദ്രത്തിന്റെ ഡയറക്ടറായാണ്‌ വിരമിച്ചത്. 1977-ല്‍ കേരളത്തിലേക്ക് തിരിച്ചുപോന്ന ഇദ്ദേഹം 1993-ല്‍ അന്തരിക്കുന്നത് വരെ മലയാള സാഹിത്യത്തിലെ സജീവ സാനിധ്യമായിരുന്നു.

മലയാളത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ നോവലായ അവകാശികളുടെ രചയിതാവായ നോവലിസ്റ്റും പത്രപ്രവര്‍ത്തകനുമായിരുന്നു മൂർക്കനാട്ടു കൃഷ്ണൻകുട്ടി മേനോൻ
എന്ന എം. കെ. മേനോൻ. വിലാസിനി എന്ന തൂലികാനാമത്തിലായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ രചനകളേറെയും. മലയാള സാഹിത്യത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും ബൃഹത്തായ നോവലിന്റെ ഉടമ, ലോകസാഹിത്യത്തിലുള്ള അസാമാന്യ പാണ്ഡിത്യം, ബൗദ്ധികതയിലൂന്നിയ ആഖ്യാനമികവ്, ഗണിതശാസ്ത്രം തോറ്റുപോകുന്നത്രയും കൃത്യതയുള്ള പാത്രസൃഷ്ടി എന്നിവ വിലാസിനി എന്ന എഴുത്തുകാരന്റെ ലോക പരിജ്ഞാനത്തിന്റെ ഉത്തമോദാഹരണങ്ങളാണ്.

നോവലുകളും യാത്രാവിവരണങ്ങളുമുള്‍പ്പെടെ നിരവധി പുസ്തകങ്ങള്‍ രചിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.

പ്രധാന കൃതികള്‍: നിറമുള്ള നിഴലുകള്‍, ഇണങ്ങാത്ത കണ്ണികള്‍, ഊഞ്ഞാല്‍, ചുണ്ടെലി, യാത്രാമുഖം.

കേന്ദ്ര – കേരള സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി പുരസ്കാരങ്ങള്‍, വയലാര്‍ പുരസ്കാരം, ഓടക്കുഴല്‍ പുരസ്‌കാരം എന്നിവ ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. നിരവധി നോവലുകൾ എഴുതിയിട്ടുള്ളതിൽ ഭൂരിഭാഗവും മന:ശാസ്ത്രപരമായിട്ടുള്ളവയായിരുന്നു. മന:ശാസ്ത്രപരമായിട്ടുള്ള നോവലുകൾ അക്കാലത്ത് മലയാളത്തിൽ പുതുമയായിരുന്നു. ഉറൂബ്, തകഴി, ദേവ് എന്നിവർ സാമൂഹിക ഉദ്ധാരണം ലക്ഷ്യമിട്ട് എഴുതിയപ്പോൾ വിലാസിനി വേറിട്ടുനിന്നു. പാശ്ചാത്യ നോവലുകൾ ധാരാളം വായിക്കുക വഴി വളരെ ഉയർന്നതലത്തിലുള്ള പ്രതിപാദന ശൈലിയ്ക്കുടമയുമായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം.

അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അവകാശികള്‍ എന്ന കൃതി നോവല്‍ വിഭാഗത്തിലെ ഇന്ത്യയിലെ തന്നെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ കൃതിയായാണ് കരുതപ്പെടുന്നത്. നാലു വാല്യങ്ങളായിട്ടാണ് ഇത് പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചത്. മലേഷ്യ – സിങ്കപ്പൂർ ദേശങ്ങളിലെ ജീവിതമാണ് അതിൽ ചിത്രീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതെങ്കിലും മഹാഭാരതത്തിലെ ചില കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളെ ഓർമ്മിപ്പിക്കുന്ന കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളാൽ സമ്പന്നമായ മറ്റൊരു മഹാഭാരതം പോലെ സംഭവബഹുലമായ ഒരു നോവലാണ് അവകാശികൾ. അത്രയും വലിയൊരു സൃഷ്ടി മലയാളത്തിൽ പിന്നെ ഉണ്ടായിട്ടില്ല.
